Green and Local - about us
What we have achieved so far
In 2007 we bought two acres of prime arable land. A hedgerow was planted
in January and in the following Spring 50 fruit trees followed. The first
section was ploughed, harrowed and planted with vegetables, flowers and soft
fruit. Last year we bought another three acres and started the ‘secret
garden’.
A borehole was drilled to ensure a good supply of water for irrigation and
a polytunnel erected. We started keeping pigs – the ‘large
black’ variety, docile, friendly and a lot of fun. They have now cleared
another half acre ready for planting.
Hens and turkeys may follow in 2010, so long as we can cope with the local
foxes!
The project has started as a Laslett family affair, but is keen to support
and involve community groups, shops and others. We have registered the ‘Green & Local’ logo
as a trade mark. We believe that over the years more and more people will understand
the importance of our approach to growing, living and looking after mother
nature and all she can produce.
Our soil is very fertile. You will be amazed at the results of your
own work when you visit– and return to harvest and eat what you sow and
plant!
The project started as a Laslett family affair but others are very
welcome to join in, as a gardening activity
holiday or a learning experience.
