Welcome to Green and Local 2010

The ‘Green & Local’ project is based in Sandwich, East Kent.

It is about growing, rearing and making things traditionally and locally.

The ‘Green & Local’ brand is associated with many things. When growing fruit and vegetables it means not using chemicals, following traditional methods, and ensuring that the end product is as fresh and tasty as possible. This means that organic methods are used. But, increasingly people also want things that are grown locally, avoiding air and road miles of shipped in organic produce. We are not registered as ‘organic’ believing that ‘Green & Local’ is more wide ranging and relevant.

‘Green & Local’ is designed to be a community-based project. There is scope for everyone to be involved, whether that is growing fruit and vegetables, encouraging wildlife, keeping bees or joining us for a learning experience.

The local school enjoys our vegetables in their restaurant and has won Healthy Eating awards. Friends and a lucky few public buy our free range pigs and sausages – and comment on the wonderful flavour!

Visitors are as welcome as local people. Hands on learning holidays are available for those living further away. The climate in East Kent is almost continental and the surrounding countryside simply beautiful, a favourite holiday location.
